Sandy was Born October 12, 1946 in Miami, Florida to the union of the late Lemuel Maceo Thomas and Lillie Eliza Robinson of Brunswick Georgia. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School 1964 in Miami, Florida. She continued her education at University of Southern California where she gained her bachelor’s degree in Psychology summa cum laude and went on to earn two master’s degrees from Florida Memorial University in Sociology and Education summa cum laude. She was a member of the Delta Signa Theta Sorority Inc. She started her career as an educator teaching kindergarten thru the second grade in Bakersfield California. Dedicating 30 years of service as the Director of Childcare programs for the City of Miami Daycare Division where she instilled the core values of early childhood education and truly believing that education was the one thing that no one can take away from you and every child deserved the opportunity to have a place where they can grow and learn in a loving and positive environment.
She loved the study of genealogy, travel, and all things beautiful. Sandy was the definition of hard work, sacrifice, determination, civility, and love for all she met. She stood up for social justice, and equality. She will be intensely missed and never forgotten. She leaves loving and cherished memories to her son: Scott D. Melo of Hollywood, Florida; her daughter whom was her caregiver Cara A.
