JoAnn Culbreath Canady
June 8, 1951 - December 30, 2022
JoAnn Culbreath Canady passed away after suffering from heart failure. She was 71. Born to her deceased parents, Adella Cobb and Lincoln Isaac, she was born and raised in Elizabeth, NJ. During the course of her life, she served 20 years with the United States Air Force. She rose from the rank of airmen to TSGT (technical sergeant) before her honorable discharge in 1991. She continued her national service with the Justice Dept, playing a key role in human resources and hiring staff counsel for several years. Afterwards, she moved to Hinesville, GA., in 2000. Due to failing health, she moved in with family in Ludowici, GA, in 2019.
She was an avid reader and huge Stephen King fan, when she wasn’t reading her Bible. Before her confinement to a wheelchair, she was an accomplished dancer. She enjoyed listening to gospel and classical music. Other hobbies included traveling, bowling and gardening. Her remaining family and friends remembered her compassion, determination and quick wit.
She is predeceased by other siblings, Gertrude, Elizabeth, Gloria, Lucy, and Clayton. Surviving family members include her sister, Judy Harris, of Newburgh, NY, and another brother located in Houston, TX. She is survived by her daughters, Shemariah Phillips, of Ludowici, GA; Ina Canady of O’Fallon, IL, and a son-in-law, Michael Phillips, several nieces, nephews and extended children.
Viewing for JoAnn Canady is scheduled for Monday, January 9th, 2023, at noon at the Brunswick Funeral Home, 2700 Albany Street, Brunswick, GA, 31521.
Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 10th, 2023 at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 1370 Shaw Road, Hinesville, GA, 31313.
